The Fullness of Vertigo

The visible world is run by its interaction with the invisible world’s orders which are structured by information shaping our reality. This information has a universal language, which is mathematics. Therefore, there is an invisible order that mathematics allows us to visualize and interpret.

As a mathematician and a doctor of emotional intelligence, Mayasa AlSowaidi has developed an exceptional sense of questioning and understanding the mechanism of mathematics and its resulting thought. Her unalterable journeys into numbers have unmasked the articulated version of her artistic creativity, and she has declined this wave of vibrations onto the matter and colors that she reveals to us in this exhibition, dedicated to the development and manifestation of our emotions through the revelation of the golden ratio and the Fibonacci sequence in her paintings, photos, drawings, installations, videos, and jewelry.

The golden ratio, 1.618…, is a magical number represented by the Greek letter φ (Phi). It is a fascinating mathematical constant that is found in nature, the human body, the arts, architecture, music, poetry, the nanoscale world of our DNA molecule, and all the way to the infinitely large universe.

Just as the golden ratio shapes the movement of waves, the curves of tree trunks, or the number of petals of daisies, this divine proportion is found in the human body as well.

The golden ratio is considered a universal formula of beauty, and its proportions are supposed to represent divine harmony. Its qualities of proportion and balance have always been seductive. This same perfection can be found in various geometric patterns (circle, rectangle, triangle, and pentagon).

In the Fibonacci sequence (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89…), each number is the sum of the two preceding ones. What is the connection with the golden ratio? If we divide a number by its preceding number, we get a value very close to Phi. The larger the numbers used, the closer we get to the golden ratio! This first encounter occurs at the 10th sequence of the sequence, (89:55 = 1.618…), and impressively, when the universe is one-tenth of a billionth of a second old (10⁻¹⁰), an energy field crystallizes, thanks to which all things in life have mass, and the world is as it is.

This perfection of creation resonates in the work of Mayasa AlSowaidi, who takes us on a journey through these multidimensional spaces. Every medium she uses depicts this hidden reality sublimely to our gaze.

In the first part of the exhibition, Mayasa AlSowaidi expresses, in a deconstructed manner, the formulation of the golden ratio of facial beauty, its architectural geometry, and orchestrates the ineffable reverberation of the creation of humankind and the perfection of beauty.

In the second part of the exhibition, we enter the frenzied rhythm of adding to infinity in the Fibonacci sequence. Vibrant materials, lavish and flamboyant colors, triumphant forms. Mayasa AlSowaidi is a mathematician and artist who works her artworks as mathematical metaphors transposing these data into material, colors, shapes, and the interlocking of a whole. Each work gives birth to a new form of expression. She expresses herself in a dizzying rhythm and gives the impression of seeking, deciphering, decrypting, erasing, taking up what she has been and above all what she could be. Her work is a constant, inexhaustible, and limitless equation. Her paintings, photos, drawings, videos, jewelry, and installations are equations that she assembles one after the other.

Since the human brain can process 10 million trillion pieces of information in one second and if we were to unfold all the filaments of our DNA contained in our cells, we would obtain a length of 6.4 billion kilometers, which is a distance from the earth to Pluto, we could let our minds travel into the immensity of Creation as well as into the immensity of Mayasa AlSowaidi’s work.

Corinne Timsit has accumulated extensive professional experience in the contemporary art world spanning over 30 years. She has owned two gallery spaces in Paris, France as well as one in Puerto-Rico, USA and has participated in numerous art fairs in the 90’s as a gallery including Art Miami (Miami), Art Geneva (Geneva), The Armory Show (New York), Scope Art Fair (Basel), Photo Fever (Brussels) and Art Paris (Paris).

She has acted as a consultant for the French Ministry of Culture and art advisor for institutions including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, UNESCO Paris, the Ralli Foundation and Museums in Uruguay, Chile, Israel, Spain and Ningbo Museum in China, amongst many others. She has also worked with global enterprises such as UBS Financial Group, Fuji Group and Seibu Group in Japan, and has organized more than 320 exhibitions worldwide.

In 2003 she co-founded Corinne Timsit Art Advisory (CT2A) alongside the media entrepreneur Eric Bonici to fuse their know-how in the contemporary art field.

Since 2004, Corinne Timsit has specialized particularly in the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. She has organized and curated, along with Eric Bonici for ArtPremium, the exhibition of 140 artworks by Jean-Michel Basquiat at the M.A.P.R. (Museum of Art of Puerto Rico). She has also edited the exhibition catalog and a special edition of ArtPremium Magazine entirely dedicated to the life and work of the artist. Since then, she has been organizing conferences on Basquiat’s work and advising collectors in the acquisition of artworks of all significance.

Corinne Timsit Art Advisory (CT2A) is an international media, events, and advisory company specialised in contemporary art that comprises a print publication; ArtPremium Magazine. The company includes an eponymous art advisory department which is one of the voices for contemporary art in the international market and offers H2H advice to a list of exclusive global clientele alongside curatorial advice, collection management strategies, and conferences. ArtPremium magazine is regularly invited to international art fairs, including Art Basel Miami, Art Basel Hong-Kong, Art Paris, KIAF, SWAB, LISTE Basel, Art Brussels, Art Miami, and CIRCA Puerto-Rico amongst others.
